Reno 911 & Jeff

This could also be titled my other brother-in-law (Jen's side).

I am so happy that RENO911 is back on the air. That show definitely cause me to laugh a few pounds of back-end off. It reminds me of my brother-in-law a lot. In fact whenever they show 'Junior' doing anything, I think of Jeff.

I have ridden in the car with Jeff a few times, while he is patrolling. He is ate up. He could not have picked a better profession for himself. He must be one of those guys that loves what they do so much they would do it for free. He drives 80-120 or not at all. My legs hurt after riding with him from bracing myself. He apparently has night vision. I apparently have blurry vision. We spent a day once constructing a device that would allow him to look around a corner to survey the area and the perp. He is on the front line when swat goes in and provides everyone the layout. He is crazy! He is 5 foot nothing and doesn't back off of taking down a couple of 6 foot 8 rednecks who have been drinking for a week straight (or even OC students, he said they are the worst). As much as it scares or hurts me, I can't wait to go riding with Junior again.

My brother in-law

Recently graduated from OC. A new EE. Getting Married 6/25. Moving to TUL.

This is the same guys who caused my first free night since VBS to be spent out shopping for new clothes for the whole family to match his wedding. I can't tell you how many problems that will cause him this weekend.

VBS05 Complete

From the great Loverboy
It's over, it's over, it's over
It's over, it's over, it's over

We finished cleaning up the set around Midnight (~3 hours). Thanks to all those who helped getting those put away as well as the costumes, paint, errant plagues.

The parting of the sea was awesome. I was down front with the kids who went wild as it parted. They completely lost it when the confettii cannons went off. The lighting was perfect, the material was also. Brad Glass would even appreciate this nearly perfect "big jump finish".

VBS Night Four

From night one to night four. There really were two in between. After night one night four is my favorite. It has nothing to do with content. I think of it like Christmas decorations. Your wife puts them up in early November so that by December 25th you are ready to take them down. The second stage at VBS has been up for a couple of weeks now and it is time to come down. I am tired of eating fast food. Last night we ate at chilli's and I almost felt like we had a sit down meal. At least wee were all around the same table (and it wasn't surrounded by little yellow chairs).

I love VBS. We had a great night last night. I think everyone had fun. I know I did. Unfortunately I believe I will be smited today for adding to the Bible. I add an 11th plague. The plague of the plastic basket. While throwing plagues from the upper stage, I got so excited I forgot what I was doing and threw the basket they were in. I should have removed a shoe and threw that for good measure.

The parting of the sea tonight should be great fun.

Don't forget to stay late tonight and help the set guys take down the stage.

VBS Night One

Night One is in the Can. Can you say 'in the can' when its a live performance. Its more like 'its been uploaded' anyway. You can see it here. (Emily - I am sorry the first part of your opening didn't make the 'saved' broadcast. When we started the broadcast we were a little too into watching the performance and forgot to hit the record button until about half way through your song.)

Also check out http://www.altamesa.org for a great VBS mini-site put together by Mark Houston. That guys has some crazy skills. He always comes through for VBS.

More than Tired?

Is there a word for being more than tired? Something like exhausted doesn't cover it. It doesn't really get the feeling across. I think I'll just say I am VBS'd. Up at 6 am for work 30 minutes for dinner then to Church till 10 (or later). I can't wait until June 23rd. One evening of rest may help.

A Great Day

A while back my folks asked to have the kids for a week this summer. This IS that week. I took them up this morning. Last minute I decided it would be really cool to run around with my Dad. I met them at 10 am, when we ate McDonald's and handed the kids off to their grandma.

I immediately took dad to a little dive burger joint. Jen and I used to eat their all of the time. I believe Cole's body was actually partially made of these delicious burgers. ( We ate a lot of them when Jen was prego with him). I asked the waitress for two burgers and root beer for each of us (they make their own AND its good). So my over-bearing voice foiled me again. The waitress brought us back two burgers EACH. Although we had just eaten breakfast (30 minutes earlier), we dug in. We joked about it the whole time. I told him it was ok, but we couldn't have pie because we needed to have popcorn at the movies.

We then went to see Star Wars EP III. We did have popcorn(medium) and a drink (medium). We had some great conversation and laughed our butts off. I love my dad.

VBS is Closing in

I count eight more practices before Sunday June 19th. Two this week (wed & thurs) and everyday next week except friday. Friday is a tech rehearsal only, so I'll be at that one but most of the cast won't.

I will cherish today. We have nothing planned. < subliminal > spaghetti < /subliminal > Only a dinner of which I am not sure what we will have. There won't be another night like tonight for a while. Thursday I take the kids up to my parents and return Friday or Saturday. Practice, Practice, build, build, pick up the kids and start the show.

Note: I won't actually be starting the show.

Outdoor VBS Display

This looks way cool when the wind is really blowing. When it isn't, the right side falls over like waves anyway. But it always windy.

Signing Formal Certificates

My wife post today about hand written letters got me thinking of an annoyance that rears its ugly each time I receive some kind of Cetificate/ Diploma/ Formal Recognition/ Congressional Medal of Honor (haven't actually receieved one of these and would prefer not to.. you mostly have to die in some heroic way. I prefer to die OLD). So here's my beef. I worked as a printer for eleven years. During that time I printed a lot of signatures. I hated that. I hate getting correspondance with a printed signature. If the document is important enough to warrant a signature, sign it. DO NOT sign your name on a template and have tha mass produced.

I will note that when I graduated college and did not ask the Dean to put his actual John Hancock on it. I was happy to be done and ready to leave. This is just an anoyance of mine. I think my wife is happy the annoyance has lessened to just picking on signatures. I used to evaluate the paper quality it was printed on as well (linen or cotton, what weight? brghtness, appropriatness to message, waste of others money)
